ABOUT THE DIETITIAN

Kelly L. Welsh, R.D., C.D., joins SMS as a leading consultant in renal nutrition for chronic kidney disease patients. Kelly brings over nine years of experience in preventative and maintenance nutrition, while applying a strong expertise in the strategic use of nutritional supplements.

Prior to joining SMS, Kelly was the renal dietitian at one of the largest free-standing peritoneal dialysis unit in the U.S., where she worked with pre-dialysis, peritoneal dialysis and post-transplant patients.

Previous to this, Kelly spent three years working with hemodialysis patients. Early in her career she worked with oncology patients, developing menus, recommending diet orders and supplements.

Kelly holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Dietetics from Mount Mary College. She is an active member of the American Dietetic Association, Renal Practice Group and Wisconsin Dietetic Association. Kelly also serves as the Milwaukee Chapter Walk Coordinator for the National Polycystic Kidney Foundation. Kelly's professional credentials include extensive published articles on renal nutrition, with specialization in polycystic kidney disease. She has also assisted in the development of a Dialysis Options Program, along with a Keeping Your Kidneys Healthy Program, both of which provide current and future patients with diet and nutritional supplementation suggestions to stave off the onset of kidney disease. Mrs. Welsh has extensive speaking experience educating other renal dietitians and renal nurses in renal-specific diets and guidelines. In addition, she has served as the keynote nutrition speaker at charitable organizations national conferences. Kelly's media activity includes numerous appearances on network television, speaking about diet and nutrition outside of the renal field, including cancer prevention, review of food claims and new food products, and overall preventative medicine.
